Robert Shafer can be heard on "Swingin' Appalachian Style," an original 1999 release that rocks 15 numbers, from "Sally Johnson" to "When I Grow Too Old to Dream"!

Robert appears with Robin Kessinger on R&R, an album guitar players everywhere have been waiting for -- duets by two legendary contemporary West Virginia pickers.

Thirty-eight-year-old Robert Shafer of Elkview, W.Va., has twice won the title of National Flatpicking Champion at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. He also has been state guitar champion of Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and Alabama.

Robert has performed on the Grand Ole Opry, on CNN, BBC, The Today Show, and at the IBMA as guitarist for mandolinist Johnny Staats. He has appeared on Mountain Stage as a featured artist, and with Mark O'Connor, Vassar Clements and Frank Wakefield.

But while the nation and world are discovering Robert Shafer, he's not forgetting his roots.

"One of the first festivals my folks took me to," says Robert, "was the Vandalia Gathering in Charleston. That was in the late 1970s and I haven't missed one since."
