 Jenny
Allinder won the 2003 Vandalia Gathering fiddle contest. But that's
nothing new. She won it in 1992
too, a year before taking the West Virginia State Folk Festival
fiddle championship.
Jenny's formal
violin training started at age 10 with the classical tutelage of
Nell Wiant and then, years later, Robin Kessinger
taught her the old-time fiddle tunes she has grown to love. Modern
influences range from Kevin Burke, James Bryan, J.P. Fraley and
Doc Watson, to Bela Fleck and Yo-Yo Ma.
Her music is
a seamless blend of originals along with Appalachian, Irish, Celtic,
folk and old-time tunes, and a strong dose of emotion. She regularly
plays at regional festivals and has toured Ireland.
Rick Justice
of The Charleston Daily Mail says, "All I know is when
you see and hear Jenny play, you fall in love."
