Banjo for a Rainy Day
David O'Dell
"Banjo
players just don't think like regular people do," says Danny
Williams in his liner notes for David O'Dell's
2003 release.
"Last
fall, David had a chance to spend a couple weeks in Australia, playing
our music for the mates and sheilas down there. I guess they invited
him because he's one of the superb multi-instrument musicians in
West Virginia, plus a real heir to the history and traditions of
the mountains, or some such reason.
"So,
anyway, when it came time to fly back to West Logan, David started
looking around for a nice souvenir of his trip. ... Most people
would pick up a boomerang or a refrigerator magnot in the shape
of a shark... David bouht an Applachian banjo."
This
entire, enchanting album was recorded on that fine instrument created
by Alan Funk of White Swallow Banjos.
