The 1937 Flood
The Band, Not The Natural Disaster
Called
"West Virginia's most eclectic string band," The
1937 Flood has been playing a rich mix of mountain, swing, jug
band and folk music for more than 25 years.
Founded
in the mid-1970s by guitarist Charlie Bowen, Autoharp/kazoo guru
Dave Peyton and fiddler Joe Dobbs, the
band plays everything from "Stormy
Weather" and "Sweet Georgia Brown" to tunes by Hazel
Dickens and Bob Dylan.
While
dozens have played with The Flood over the years, everyone agrees
the current configuration -- with Doug
Chaffin on bass, Chuck Romine on tenor banjo and Sam St. Clair on
harmonica -- is the best ever!
